Brazilian Model Gisele Bündchen

Born: July 20, 1980 (Age 42), Brazil

Gisele Bündchen, whose full name is Gisele Caroline Bündchen, was born in Horizontina, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil, on July 20, 1980. She first rose to prominence in the late 1990s and later attained the status of “Supermodel”. Gisele Bündchen is perhaps best known as the face of the American lingerie, apparel, and cosmetics retailer Victoria’s Secret.

Together with her five sisters, one of whom is her fraternal twin, Bündchen was reared in the city of Horizontina, a tiny rural community in southern Brazil. Her mother was a bank clerk, while her father was a professor at a university.

An Elite Model Management representative, one of the biggest modelling agencies in the world, discovered Bündchen in a mall in 1994 when she was 14 years old. She participated in the agency’s Look of the Year modelling competition in 1995, which was subsequently renamed Elite Model Look. She finished second nationally and fourth overall. The year after that, Bündchen relocated to New York City to begin a career as a professional model. Shortly after that, she made her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week, one of the four main semi-annual events in the business. Bündchen gained notoriety Vogue in Brazil.

Bündchen continued to show up on the covers of the top periodicals in the business despite having a curvier form that contrasted sharply with the waifish frames that were in fashion at the time. Her appearance on the July 1999 cover of American Vogue, which announced the “Return of the Sexy model”, signalled the demise of the “Heroin Chic” style, which featured an extremely thin physique combined with pale skin, dark under eye circles, and frequently messy hair and clothing. She received the title of Model of the Year that same year, a distinction given by Vogue and the American cable network VH1.

After committing to a contract to represent Victoria’s Secret from 2000 to 2007, Gisele Bündchen started dating Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio and gained immediate prominence throughout the world. She quickly gained widespread recognition, which many in the industry hailed as the return of the “Supermodel” a top fashion model who simultaneously appears on the covers of the biggest fashion publications on the planet and is known solely by her first name. Additionally, throughout this period, Bündchen walked the runways for some of the most prestigious fashion companies in the world, such a Christian Dior and Valentino; in 2015, she announced her retirement from the catwalk.

In the 2004 comedy-thriller Taxi, which also starred Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon, Bündchen made her acting debut. In the film version of Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling book The Devil Wears Prada (2004), which tells the humorous adventures of one of fictitious fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly’s personal aides, she later starred with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

Tom Brady, an American football player, and Bündchen were married in 2009 and she got divorced recently in the year 2022. She was chosen as the UN Environment Programme’s goodwill ambassador that same year. The exhibition “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2009, which presented the models who personified fashion in the 20th century, included Bündchen.

She introduced a number of product lines, including ones for shoes, cloths, jewellery, lingerie, and skin care products that are kind to the environment. In addition, Bündchen established the Luz Foundation, which supports a number of self-esteem-enhancing initiatives with the goal of empowering young women both physically and intellectually. She released Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life in 2018.
