Rapper Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny is a proud Puerto Rican and one of the most streamed artists in the world. He is an outspoken advocate for women’s and LGBTQ rights. Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio is the actual name of Bad Bunny.

On March 10, 1994, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny was born. His mother was a school teacher, while his father was a truck driver. He made the decision to become a singer when he was 5 years old and joined church choir. At 13, though, he left choir because he was “too old”. He began creating rap rhymes in high school after being inspired by the Latin music and eventually left the University of Puerto Rico to concentrate on music.

He posted his Reggaeton and trap tracks to SoundCloud while working at a supermarket. His song “Diles” led to a record deal in 2016. His distinctive sense of style attracted even more interest. His initial partnership with Colombian singer J Balvin is“Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola” (If Your Boyfriend Leaves You Alone).

Without even releasing an album, Bad Bunny released 29 singles and collaborations between 2017 and 2018. He appeared on Cardi B’s debut album, “I like it”, which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard chart in May 2018 when he was 24 years old. Bad Bunny released his debut album, “X100pre”, on Christmas Eve of 2018.

He attacked the Trump administration’s response to Hurricane Maria using his notoriety. Bad Bunny frequently criticizes Latino culture’s destructive masculinity. His “Solo de mi” music video brought attention to abuse against women. Bad Bunny interrupts his tour in July 2019 to take part in protests in Puerto Rico.

The public denounced governmental corruption after the texts of Governor Ricardo Rossello surfaced online. Together with residents, he created the protest’s music, and when Rossello announced his resignation, he joined Ricky Martin and residents in the crowd to celebrate.

Bad Bunny played in the Super Bowl Halftime Show and released his second solo album, “YHLQMDLG” in February 2022. He is also renowned for his irreverent personal style and gender-bending clothing. Bad Bunny’s drag performance for the “Yo Perreo Sola” video drew both praise and scorn.

Alexa Negron, a transgender woman killed in Puerto Rico, was also honoured by him in 2020. Bad Bunny challenged the way Negron was referred to in Puerto Rican media while wearing a skirt and a shirt that read: “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt”.

Bad Bunny issued two additional albums during the COVID-19 pandemic: “Las que no iban a salir” and “The Ones that were not going to come out”. A collection of unheard music, “El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo” and “The Last World Tou”, was the first entirely Spanish album to top the Billboard 200 chart.

Bad Bunny became Spotify’s most-streamed artist in the world by the end of 2020. He is the first non-English language musician to top list ever.
